I joined CEA in 2008 for the conference in St. Louis and was hooked on the welcoming collegiality of the organization. Since then, I have presented and moderated at conferences and was Program Chair in 2022. I am currently the Executive Director of CEA as well as a Professor of English at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I teach British literature and dabble in film adaptations of novels. I have 3 cats, am an avid fan of the Fort Wayne TinCaps minor league baseball team, and recently had a beer named after me at a local nanobrewery.
I joined CEA as a graduate student almost 30 years ago. Since then, I've attended nearly every conference where I have presented on myriad topics from American Literature to Martha Stewart, to from pedagogy to photography. In addition to my work as an English Professor, I am a Holocaust Educator and have been a fellow at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., the International School of Holocaust Studies at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, Israel, and the Auschwitz Jewish Center in Oswiecim, Poland. At CEA, I've been a presenter, moderator, panel organizer, editor of The CEA Critic, and the CEA Historian. I am now Emeritus Professor of English at the University of Northern Colorado. Here I am with my fabulous dog AMOS, who attended CEA in Savannah as a pup.
I attended my first CEA conference about twenty years ago. I enjoyed her membership in the Indiana College English Association so much that I became the ICEA-CEA liaison. Now, I am in charge of CEA 2024! I am a professor of English at the University of Southern Indiana with a specialization in American Literature. On Saturday mornings, I walks dogs—like Obi-Wan--for the Warrick County Humane Society.
I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Northern Colorado, the Director of English Education, and the Program Coordinator for the MAT in English Education. In my work as a teacher educator, my research areas include Social and Emotional Learning and the confluence of brain science, learning, and teaching.
I am a Professor of English at Tarleton State University with a Ph.D. from the University of North Texas and an M.A. in Biblical Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary. I see myself as a teacher, scholar, and community servant. I edit two journals and a book series. My poetry collection, Migratory Words, appeared in 2016. I have received the international South Asian Literary Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, the College English Association Professional Achievement Award, and the Frances Hernández Teacher-Scholar Award by the Conference of College Teachers of English. I was recently awarded Tarleton’s College of Liberal and Fine Arts “Engaged Faculty” Award.
My other passion is music. In my spare time, I am a professional musician, and I host a weekly radio show, “The Beatles and Beyond,” which airs live on Wednesdays from 1:06-3 pm (CST), with an encore presentation on Tuesday nights from 8:06-10 pm (CST). You can listen to me live here: www.ktrl.org. Just click the “Listen Live” button and then click “play.”
My association with the CEA goes back to 1996, when I was pushed toward the organization's annual conference by my doctoral advisor, Dr. John Shawcross. Call his guidance a decisive check on the positive side of my life's ledger. Since then, I've attended just about every conference, and I eventually got involved with The CEA Critic as an editor, a position I continue to fill in my status as emeritus faculty with the University of Colorado/Boulder's Program for Writing and Rhetoric. It's not all reading and writing for me, though: the photo here is from Arapahoe Basin, a place I hope to continue skiing for many years to come.
I am Assistant Professor of Technical Communication at Mercer University. I earned my Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Professional Communication from Iowa State University. I am driven by an interest in the ever-evolving domain of digital communication. At Mercer I teach courses in web design, multimedia, and content strategy. My research delves into digital writing technologies, advanced text-mining techniques, and the capabilities of generative AI.
I joined the CEA in 2010, the same year I completed my PhD at the University of Arkansas. I have taught composition and literature courses for many years and have published essays on Ernest Hemingway, M. Scott Momaday, and Edgar Allan Poe that all began as CEA conference papers. In 2020, the Year of Infamy, I began my role as Chair of the Technology Committee for CEA. I have taught at Colorado State University since 2018 and live in Fort Collins, CO with my wife, Sally, and a very spoiled dog.
I first encountered CEA at a statewide affiliate conference back in 2012 and have enjoyed attending and presenting at conferences ever since. It's a wonderful association with collegial folks who have great senses of humor. I am in my 15th year at Anderson University -- the one in Indiana, not South Carolina :) -- where I'm an Associate Professor teaching composition, Language Arts methodology, and YA Lit.
