Celebrate community and continue the conversation over delicious South Asian cuisine! All-you-can-eat vegetarian and non-vegetarian buffet at Zafran Kabab Palace (230 E W.T. Harris Blvd, Charlotte, NC).
Our opening event includes a welcome from this year's Conference Chair, Emily Jane Pucker, followed by our exciting and timely keynote speaker, Chris Anson. Chris is Distinguished University Professor and Alumni Association Distinguished Graduate Professor at North Carolina State University. Internationally recognized for his work in writing studies, he has published extensively in the field of writing studies and spoken or led faculty workshops across the United States and in 34 other countries. Chris currently serves as Chair of the International Society for the Advancement of Writing Research. Read more about his impressive (and intimidating!) professional work here: www.ansonica.net That said, as Chris's photo suggests, he does find time for other interests. (However, Chris tells us he’s not actually a big fan of single-match Scotch.) But that's okay, because at the President's Reception (see below), it's just beer or wine!

An early highlight of our annual conference is the PRESIDENT'S RECEPTION (and not just because it's FREE with your registration!). CEA President, Moumin Quazi will welcome everyone to the 55th annual gathering of the CEA. Here, members old and new can renew old friendships or create new ones over fancy finger food and light libations (i.e., beer and wine). This year, we also welcome our new friends from the South Asian Literary Association (SALA). (Image from CEA 1953 in Chicago. Okay, not really, but we do have a fun time, and a conga line is not outside the realm of possibility.)

For our closing event, the All-Conference Luncheon, we are thrilled to welcome
A.J. Hartley. In the spirit of our CEA/SALA conference, A.J. is two speakers in one. He is the Robinson Professor of Shakespeare (Emeritus) at UNC Charlotte, where he specialized in stage theory and practice. His academic books consider the intersections of Shakespeare with contemporary dramaturgy, political theatre, millennial fiction, and geek culture. He has also authored several books on Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar.
At the same time, A.J. is the international bestselling and award-winning author of 28 novels including the YA fantasy series Hideki Smith, Demon Queller. His long relationship with Japan began when he lived in Yamanashi. Today, he hosts a YouTube channel on Japanese rock music and culture. Learn more at about A.J. and his varied interests here: www.ajhartley.net
